Pregnancy is a special, unique and private time. Emotions span the full spectrum from excitement and relief to anxiety and fear. We understand this and are here to support you safely through your pregnancy alongside your GP, midwife and family.

Causes

A lot of women experience discomfort during pregnancy due to the changes taking place in their body as the baby grows. There can be strain on the lower back, hips and/or pelvis due to the change in gravitational force and softening of ligaments. Symphysis pubis dysfunction is a specific condition affecting the front portion of the pelvis. The ribcage may become uncomfortable as it expands to accommodate the growing baby, and there may be headaches due to this and associated muscular tension.

When to seek help

Treatments Available

Chiropractors and Physiotherapists will take a full history and conduct a thorough examination to diagnose the cause of pain or discomfort. They will then use modified and safe techniques to enable the nerves, joints and muscles to function better. In the case of pubic symphysis pain, alongside treatment and advice, we can order a support belt that can reduce the pain and help you to walk better. Massage Therapists (link) can help to reduce tension in aching muscles with modified and safe treatment. Acupuncturists and Hypnotherapists can also help you prepare for labour.

All of these services are available at Courtyard.
